Read the case study and answer the questions about the case study The case of Allison Allison’s home life is chaotic. Her family is experiencing financial hardship as the factory closed where both of her parents worked in unskilled roles packing produce into boxes. Since then mum and dad have been unemployed. To help support her family, Allison has started a casual job as a kitchen hand in a busy restaurant. The work is physically and mentally fatiguing as Allison works nights in a hot environment lifting heavy pots and pans. Because of the work Allison has less time and energy for extracurricular activities and friends. Six months ago, the family had to move into a small 2 bedroom unit. The unit is in poor condition in a suburb with a bad reputation, however, it is all her parents could afford. Because of this, Allison is sharing a bedroom with her 3 younger siblings. Without a quiet space to study, studying has become challenging and Allison’s school grades are beginning to slip. There is no library close by where Allison could go to study, Allison’s mother cooks meals for the entire family every evening. To stretch the family’s food budget, ingredients for dinner are limited and tend to be high in fat, sodium, and sugar, and low in protein, fruits, and vegetables. Between school and her new job, Allison typically doesn’t arrive home in time to eat with her family. There is an abundance of fast food restaurants near school and in her neighbourhood, so grabbing dinner on the go is easy. Allison’s mum wishes she was home more often. Not only does she miss her during family dinners, but she worries about Allison coming home late. Cutbacks in the city budget have led to fewer operating buses, especially at night. Allison often has to wait at a bus stop across town for up to one hour for a bus to take her home. She then walks six blocks from the bus stop to home, mostly in the dark, as there are few functioning streetlights in her neighbourhood. City budget cutbacks have also led to a reduction in police patrols One night Allison was walking home from the bus stop when she tripped on a broken paver in the footpath and broke her arm. The break was severe and requires Allison to see a specialist for treatment and rehabilitation. The service is expensive and she has to travel across town as there are no appropriate specialist services in the local neighbourhood. QUESTION 1: Choose four (4) of the social determinants that are present in the case study. For each determinant write about a paragraph responding to the two points below. Use examples to support your explanation. • Explain the link with population health Explain the link with Allison’s health in the case study,
