Case 5: This is a case of a patient that was hospitalized at the age of 6 months. Upon admission, the patient appeared chronically ill and irritable. His skin was clear, there was moderate adenopathy and the spleen is extended to the iliac crest. Bone x-rays were unremarkable. His hemoglobin was 14.5 g/dL, White cell count of 20 x 109/L. Tuberculosis was most likely the diagnosis. In spite of medication, his cough and difficult breathing continued unimproved and rapidly lost further weight. Upon careful examination, vacuolated monocytes and lymphocytes were seen. He had had daily fever and showed no improvement. He died suddenly on the thirty-first hospital day. 1.
