For following cases below, identify if either information or selection bias is present in the scenarios below () define the type of information bias (eg., recall bias, etc.) or selection bias (e.g., loss to follow up, etc.). (ii) explain why that bias is present and (iv) what steps could the researcher take to address the bias. NOTE: Be sure to base your answer on the scenario provided, rather than just whatever bias is most common for a particular study design A. A case control study of preterm birth and maternal exposure to smoking during pregnancy was conducted among mothers who gave birth at the same clinic. Cases (alive pre-term births before 37 weeks) and controls (births >37 weeks) were enrolled between January and December 2019. Among cases, serum cotinine levels were tested via blood sample collected by doctors to measure exposure to smoking during pregnancy, while for controls smoking exposure was assessed via self-report using interviewer-administered surveys. B. A researcher was interested in the effect of asbestos exposure on mortality. They used data from employees at a textile factory in Detroit, Michigan in 1940 and compared them to individuals from the general population of Detroit in the same year. In 1965 they assessed mortality for both groups using death records in 1965 and compared death rates from lung cancer from both groups.
