Question 3 A patient with acute decompensated heart failure is admitted to the Sullivan University Medica exacerbation of his asthma. The following orders are current IV medications that the patients receiving: Aminophylline 1 gram/250 ml in DSW at 20 mg/hr continuous IV infusion Dopamine 800 mg/250 mL in DSW 24 mb/hr continuous IV infusion Furosemide 60 mg IVP Q6H Nitroprusside 100 mg/250 mL in DSW at 6 mg/hr continuous IV infusion Vancomycin 1 gram/200 ml in iso-osmotic dextrose Q12H IVPB The physician also orders a heparin drip (25,000 units/250 ml) continuous IV infusion 1800 units/hr for prophylaxis of venous thromboembolism. The patient’s nurse has just called to determine how best to schedule these medications. Please determine the following: a. rate of infusion in ml/hr for the continuous IV infusions b. length of time for administration of IVPB and IVP medications c. how you would administer the continuous IV infusion medications (hint: which continuous IV infusions are compatible with each other), schedule the administration of the IVPB, and IVP medications through the triple lumen PICC line.
