The graph below is from my dissertation. This replacement
diagram shows seed weights of soybean plants that are uninjured by
insects (“normal plants”) or soybean plants that developed two
stems after insect injury to the growing tip (“y-plants). The
y-plants are developmentally delayed (a little) as the growing
points and new stems must develop after injury. The replacement
diagram shows the yields of both types of plants at different
ratios and their combined yields. Two questions: first, which (if
either) plant is the superior competitor, and second, speculate on
why the competition occurred or didn’t occur. (please answer by
