Simulation 1 A graduate of a 2-year college with an accreditedmedical assistant program lands her first job working for a familypractitioner.

The physician has been established in her practice for 15 yearsand is well respected. The graduate thought this was the perfectjob. By the end of the first day, she was thrilled but exhaustedwith the clinical work. She also had numerous concerns and calledher former instructor for advice.

Her concerns included the following: (1) physician stressedspeed in performing procedures at the expense of sterile technique,(2) physician did not follow good sterile technique, (3) graduatewas asked to perform procedures that were illegal, (4) charting wasincomplete, and (5) sometimes clients were treated rudely.

The instructor advised the graduate to give the employer and thejob more time. One day was insufficient to make a judgment. Shealso advised the graduate to talk with the physician about herconcerns.

The graduate agreed to do both and did. No changes occurred.Within 1 week, she terminated her employment. The employeragreed.
