The pandemic has put a great strain on many countries economiesand populations. The stalling of economic activity and reductionsin trade have effected many countries. Africa for instance willrequire $200 billion to address the financial and socioeconomicimpacts of the pandemic. Generally the country would raise thefunds to restart their economic recovery, but due to the pandemicthese options are not available. Africa’s external dept has gottenfar worse since the pandemic (Eziakonwa, 2021). The total number ofthose living in poverty has increased by 131 million (Ramachandran,2021). After reading articles regarding facts and figurespertaining to poverty I was astonished by how high the povertynumber has risen over a years time period. Most countries withinthe world are hurting greatly due to this pandemic. In any othersituation I do believe that developed countries should helpunderdeveloped countries in various situations. I believe thatright now many countries are hurting and trying to produce massvaccination roll outs, which have been going well now, but weren’tat first. I feel that developed nations do not have an obligationto help other countries, but as my mother says “you scratch my backand I’ll scratch yours” comes into effect in this situation. Theremany be a case later down the road where we will be anunderdeveloped country and need the assistance of developedcountries so therefore I feel it would be kind and appreciated tohelp the underdeveloped countries, but is not our obligation.
