Preop Dx: Cold thyroid nodule Postop Dx: Multinodular goiter Procedure: Thyroidectomy Anesthesia: General Procedure Description: The patient was prepped and draped in the usual sterile fashion after induction of general endotracheal anesthesia. The neck was entered through a collar incision, and bleeding was controlled with electrocautery. Skin flaps were created deep to the platysma up to the hyoid bone and down to the suprastemal notch. The midline fascia was divided and strap muscles separated from the thyroid gland. Both lobes of the thyroid were noted to be enlarged. However, the right lobe was noted to be greatly enlarged with a large nodule at the junction of the isthmus with the left lobe. The right lobe was initially dissected from the surrounding tissue with the middle thyroid vein clamped divided and ligated with 4-0 silk ligatures. Inferior and superior pole vessels were clampled, divided and ligated with 3-0 silk ligatures, taking care to avoid injury to the recurrent laryngeal nerve. The thyroid was then swept medially and divided from the trachea. The dissection was carried to the junction of the isthmus with the left lobe and the gland removed and sent to frozen section. Frozen section was retumed as benign. The large nodule on the left lobe at the junction of the isthmus and the left lobe were dissected from the gland. Bleeders were controlled with straight stats and ligated with 4-0 silk ligatures. Hemostasis was insured with electrocautery and Avitene. The strap muscle was reapproximated with running suture of 2-0 Chromic, the midline fascia was closed with 3-0 Chromic; the platysma was colded with running 3-0 plain the skin was closed with skin stapler. A sterile dressing was applied. The patient was sent to the recovery room in stable condition What CPT surgical code(s) would you assign for this case?
