Use of anabolic steroids by body builders and track athletesaround the world is widespread. These athletes use steroids toremain competitive at the highest level. Steroids are controlledsubstances (like heroin), but some argue that professional athletesshould be allowed to take steroids if they do not mind damagingtheir own bodies. The counterargument is that if one professionalathlete uses steroids, then others must also take them – or theymay lose their competitive edge. As a result, sports organizationswould be condoning or even slightly encouraging their players(their employees) to ingest substances known to be harmful. What isyour view on steroid use in professional sports and why? Do youthink steroids should be decriminalized? Why or why not?
