LAB #5: Power and Muscular Strength Assessment Student will complete the following sections: Complete the 1-RMBW along with points/ratings, Classification, Data Analysis, and Discussion Questions. Be sure to type out all equations this week in order to get points. Purpose The purpose of this lab is to provide you with experience in administering muscular strength tests using free weights (dynamic) and dynamometers (static). You will also assess explosive power with a countermovement vertical jump test. . Equipment • Vertec jump apparatus • Hand grip dynamometer • Constant-resistance exercise machines • Flat bench for bench press Leg press machine Testing Procedures (For Review Only). 1. Work in pairs. One student will be measured and the other student will be the technician, After completing all tests, rotate positions. 2. Measure the client’s body weight. 3. Power: Use standardized procedures and the Vertec to measure a countermovement vertical jump. Use the best of 3 trials. Repeat the vertical jump test with a static vertical jump (hold parallel squat position for 3 seconds before jumping without a countermovement). Again, use the best of 3 trials. 4. Static (isometric) strength: Using a handgrip dynamometer, measure static grip strength according to standardized procedures. Be sure to adjust the handgrip appropriately. Administer 3 trials for each hand, allowing for 1-min rest between trials. Record the best score for each hand. 5. Dynamic strength: Using constant-resistance exercise machines, administer each of the 1. RM strength tests listed on the data collection form following standardized procedures. Be
