Case: Derek Derek is a 52-year-old mortgage loan officer for a regional bank. He is husband to a wife of 30 years and three children – two of which are attending the University of Mississippi. Results from his recent annual physical exam (i.e., check-up) indicated that Derek has a family Hx of T2DM, hypertension and premature CVD mortality. As part of his personal health Hx, Derek indicated that he is physically inactive, he continues to take Zebeta and Amaryl as his doctor prescribes. He told his doctor that he feels tired a lot and sometimes has trouble sleeping. Additional results from his doctor visit include: Height = 72″ Body Weight = 242 lbs Waist = 44 in HR resting = 68 bpm SBP resting = 136 mmHg DBP resting = 92 mmHg Cholesterol = 205 mg/L LDL-C = 160 mg/dL HDL-C = 38 mg/dL TG = 188 mg/dL Blood Glucosefasting = 145 mg/dL HbA1C = 8.4% After reviewing his health, his doctor strongly recommended that Derek begin a regular regimen of exercise and increase physical activity in his daily routine. Derek received a medical clearance from his doctor to start an exercise program and sent Derek to see you at the hospital-based wellness center to work with your health care team. The doctor recommended an initial exercise test. 1. Provide a thorough summary of Derek’s health information that was collected during his physical exam with his doctor. Do not restate the results. Summarize the findings, calculate important health parameters, compare his results to norm-reference standards and guidelines found in GETP10. Include insights from what you observe from his check-up. (These observations will help Derek and your team understand the primary and secondary goals for his exercise prescription.)
