3. In an art therapy study, participants who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder are randomly assigned to either complete a daily sketchbook exercise – or – a daily word puzzle task. They then are assigned to a control case (nothing more happens) or a condition where they meet with a weekly group to discuss their sketches or the word puzzles they’ve worked on during the past week. The key idea is that sketching can help people form new connections paving the way for improved communication alleviating some of the trauma symptoms. The participants’ PTSD scores (0 to 30) are measured after one month of the study.
