CASE 4 World War II Allied Forces were seeing some crew members, 19 and 19 year old men, dying of pulmonary emboli are returning from long flights. The most affected were those crew members that operated the turret machine gun in the belly of the B-17. RK was one of these crew members. After returning from a successful mission, he noted his left leg was painful and stiff. The next morning his leg was markedly swollen from the knee down. Questions: 1. What is going on with this patient? 2. Why was this being seen in these crew members? 3. What testing would be performed to diagnosis this patient and what would be the expected results?
