Case: Derek Derek is a 52-year-old mortgage loan officer for a regional bank. He is husband to a wife of 30 years and three children – two of which are attending the University of Mississippi. Results from his recent annual physical exam (i.e., check-up) indicated that Derek has a family Hx of T2DM, hypertension and premature CVD mortality. As part of his personal health Hx, Derek indicated that he is physically inactive, he continues to take Zebeta and Amaryl as his doctor prescribes. Additional results from his doctor visit include: Height = 72″ HR resting = 68 bpm Cholesterol = 205 mg/dL TG = 188 mg/dL Body Weight = 242 lbs SBPresting = 136 mmHg LDL-C = 160 mg/dL Blood Glucose fasting = 145 mg/dL Waist = 44 in DBP resting = 92 mmHg HDL-C = 38 mg/dL HbA1C = 8.4% After reviewing his health, his doctor strongly recommended that Derek begin a regular regimen of exercise and increase physical activity in his daily routine. Derek received a medical clearance from his doctor to start an exercise program and sent Derek to see you at the hospital-based wellness center to work with your health care team.
