Explain how to use chromatography to achieve protein separation
from a mix of proteins in platypus milk. Assume the proteins in
platypus milk range from 5 kD to 200 kD, and you are interested in
a protein that has a molecular weight of 40 kD and is positively
charged at neutral pH. There are other 40 kD proteins in the milk,
but they are negatively charged at neutral pH. (There are also many
proteins in the milk that are also positively charged, but of
different size.) In your answer, describe and recommend two
different types of chromatography. Explain the theoretical basis of
separation for each technique and describe the resin she should use
to isolate the protein and the expected results for the
separation.
