(See Lesson 2.12 Spike end Drip chamber Roller damp Y-site Adapter end Part TWO: Demonstrates procedure of administration of IV fluid from spiking bag to connecting to IV catheter Ensure that IV container is at least 76.2 cm (30 inches) above intravenous (IV) site for adults Demonstrate correct procedure to administer fluid at 150 ml/hr (Verbalize tubing drop factor and how drip rate was calculated. MUST actually show correct drip rate being counted for one full minute) Part THREE: ADMINISTERING MEDICATION VIA PIGGYBACK – Amoxicillin 250 mg in 100mL. NS over 15 minutes. Connect tubing of piggyback infusion to appropriate connector on upper Y port of primary infusion line: Wipe off needleless port of main IV line with alcohol swab, allow to dry, and insert cannula tip of piggyback infusion tubing Regulate flow rate of medication solution by adjusting regulator clamp or IV pump infusion rate.
