During the first postoperative hour, the patient is noted to behypotensive, with a systolic blood pressure of 80 mm Hg. A reviewof the patient’s history indicates that his normal systolicpressure on admission was 160 mm Hg. The patient is noted to takefurosemide, hydrochloride thiazide, metoprolol, and lisinopril forblood pressure control. With this information in mind, it isobvious that the patient’s systolic pressure is significantly lowerthan anticipated.
