Running head: A GREAT OPTION A GREAT OPTION A Great Option Tick tock, time is passing by and perhaps you are still not set on a major for your degree. It may feel like there are too many options out there, and it can be overwhelming. Choosing what ficld you will be working in, for possibly the rest of your life can be an intimidating task, so it is a great idea to research different majors, career choices, and what schools offer the major you land on. It is a nerve packing decision making process but eventually it has to be donc, cspecially now that college degrees are seen as a must to make you stand out in the work field. There are a A Great Option Bob O. Loblaw Califomia State University, Fullerton lot of choices for degrees out there that it can be difficult to narrow your options down but if you have an interest in the health field then Public Health is worth looking into. Choosing Public Health as your major is a great option because there are a variety of options for carcers, there are different concentration options and it provides job stability with room for growth that can lead to a profitable career. Public Health is a broad field that can lead you into various health related careers. It opens the door to many different options. Some of these options include health educators, occupational health and safety professionals, or program hcalth managers. If you want to pursue an even higher level of education, a bachelor’s in public health is a great jumping off point that lcads to carcers such as public health nurse, hcalthcare administrator, physician assistant and so many other health related jobs. Public Ilealth is a smart major to choose when you want to have a lot of different carcer path options and at the moment maybe aren’t so sure what exactly it is that you want to do. Choosing certain majors can make you feel trapped because of the limited amount career paths available for them but public health is not one of those. This can help you focus on one of the many sections of public health. Luckily, California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) offers 3 concentrations that can help push you in the direction you like the most. According to the CSUF website the concentrations offered are global health, occupational health and safety, and general studies concentration. It is great that these concentrations are offered because it shows how broad this field can be and what choices are out there. Narrowing find a job. Working for the hcalthcare system almost always provides job stability. Scarcey. People’s health is important and unfortunately there are always people who are sick and need help. Whether it hc important for the government or a private company, health is always at the forefront because it can help a company save money or just overall be good for the community. This is exactly what Public Health does, prevent, promote, and advise good health. Besides being a major that can lead to a stable career, it can also lead to a very well-paid job. Since healthcare is important in our communities, careers in these fields tend to pay well. These careers on average make more than the mean wage in the United States. The average wage down this field of study can be helpful because you can focus on certain aspects of Public Health that can help make you more appealing to employers. One of the concentrations offered is Global Health, which the CSUF website explains that this concentration allows students to develop a global perspective on issues in health science, including communicable and non-commirrunicable diseases, food security, and development and health. This concentration can lead to careers such as an epidemiologist, program evaluators, and health consultants. The environmental health and in the United States for Public Health is $65,500, which is almost $20,000 more than the average occupational safety route focuses more on as stated in the name, the cnvironment and work safety. According to Explore Health Careers website, carcers in this concentration include safety salary of a worker in the United States (Doyle, 2019). In some states, such as New York and engineer, registered environmental health specialist and industrial hygienist. The last concentration is general studies. This is typically used as a jumping off point to a health-related career such as physician assistant, occupational therapist or a nurse. Offering these concentrations is helpful becau it can really help a student xus on one aspect of Public Health. Concentrating on one umbrella can be useful because you can learn specific skill sets that Massachusetts the wages are higher showing that more money can be made in other states. If making a better than average income that employment opportunities are out there can make you feel secure that you will be able to sounds appealing, then the Public Ilealth field is definitely a great option for achieving that. A GREAT OPTION 5 A GREAT OPTION 6 A superb school to choose for this major is Califomia State University Fullerton. It has highest paying jobs are often those that require a minimum of a master’s in public health. These Careers include physician assistant, epidemiologist, or public health nurse. Many people including most of my peers do not want to stay in school longer than a bachelor’s but with Public Health options can become limited if you do not want to take your education a step further. Yes, many great qualities that make it an excellent location to study. Like I have mentioned before this university offers 3 concentrations, being focused in one arca can be helpful in making you stand out from other candidates who also have a Public Health Degree. Another reason Fullerton is great is because of the various resources offered at the campus specifically for Public Health. There is student clubs and organizations catered to different aspects of public health. Some of these clubs include the Allied Ilealth Student Association (AHISA) which is an organization that aims to further connect allied health professionals socially, professionally, and academically as stated on the CSUF website. Another organization is The Peer Health University Network (PHUN) is a student based group whose purpose is to promote healthy behaviors and practices to it may suck that you have to go to school for a longer time than expected. A lot of people in my experience would rather only get a bachelor’s but in this day and age, a hachelors is the minimum requirement for entry level jobs. Many majors now require a graduate degree to get a well paying career not just Public Health. Majors such as psychology, sociology, and political science usually require a higher level of education to get a better career that leads to a better salary. Commonly, a higher level of education leads to more money. As stated by Williams fellow CSUF students. Aside from the many clubs they house they also have a peer mentor (2019) on average graduate degree holders make seventeen thousand more per year than a bachelor’s degree holder. More education always takes you a step further, salary wise and can give you more options career wisc. So, if you want to be making that money, then more education would be your best option, Overall, Public Health is a great option to choose as your major. It provides job stability, various career choices, and can lead to a high carning career. All these are great qualities look for in a major. Yes, it may require a graduate degree to really make money but that is how it is program. This prograrri pairs you up with someone in the same field as you, to help promote the best college experience and for a support system with someone who is going through or has been through the same process as you. This can really help guide and build friendships with someone doing the same major. Another reason Fullerton is a great place to study is the scholarships availablc gcared specifically to those in health-related fields. There are 8 scholarships offered for undergraduates in Public Health and more if you want to get a graduate degree. The scholarships offered range between $50 up to a $1000. School can be expensive, but these scholarships can help buy school supplies or pay part of your tuition. They are all listed on the Public Health California State University, Fullerton website. Although, Public Health is a great major to choosc, often carcers in this field require extra certification or a graduate degree. There are career options with just a bachelor’s degree but there aren’t as many options for those carcers as there are with a higher level of education. The for a lot of majors these days. California State University, Fullerton is an especially awesome place to study Public Health because of the scholarships and organizations offered on campus for this major.
