When cleaning a wound, you would: Pack the wound tightly to absorb as much drainage as possible to decrease the amount of times that dressing changes would need to be performed. It is okay to use the same swab throughout the cleaning process. Clean from the bottom of the wound to the top of the wound. Wipe from the clean area to the less clean area.
