One year ago, Mr. Johnson had an elective left total-hipreplacement for osteoarthritis. Four months later, he had amyocardial infarction. Two weeks ago, while on his exercise bike,he had a stroke. His right arm and leg were paralyzed, he lost hisspeech, and he had difficulty swallowing. He arrived in theEmergency Department within 3 hours of the stroke and receivedthrombolytic therapy. Mr. Johnson is now receiving physicaltherapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy in the inpatientRehabilitation Unit.
